As part of the 23rd Japan Day at the Auckland Showgrounds on Sunday, 22nd Feb 2026, we - Japan Cultural Trust (JCTA) - have hosted the 'TeaCha' cultural tea tasting event. Located within the bustling festival grounds, the 'TeaCha' area provided a welcoming space for visitors to pause and enjoy a variety of traditional teas.
Highlights of the Event:
-
Exploring Diverse Flavours: The 'TeaCha' session introduced guests to premium teas from Japan, Korea, China, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand. It offered a quiet opportunity for visitors to experience and compare different tea cultures in one place.
-
A Space for Connection: Reflecting the diverse community of Auckland, the event saw people from many different backgrounds—including Kiwi, Chinese, Korean, Indian, and Filipino visitors—stopping by to share a cup of tea. The area served as a friendly "meeting spot" for light conversation and cultural exchange.
-
Fostering Community Spirit: The event aimed to use the simple act of sharing tea to bring people together. The relaxed atmosphere of the tea tasting provided a pleasant contrast to the energetic pace of the main festival activities.
